Preschool Teacher Position

Job vacancy for Preschool teacher at the American Farm School

Since 2011, the American Farm School and the Thessaloniki Schools for Experiential Learning offer anextended, innovative educational program to young children 2,5 to 12 years of age. The curriculum focuses on experiential environmental learning, enriched Science, English language acquisition and technology literacy.

An opening for a full-time teacher is announced for the school year 2017-2018 at the Pre-Kindergarten.

Mission:
The Pre-K teacher reports to the Head of the Pre-K program.

Job description:
The teacher is responsible to:

  • Implement the Pre-K curriculum and experiential environmental and innovative programs of the School.
  • Cooperate systematically with the other teaching staff.
  • Develop additional educational material for his/her class and the experiential programs he/she implements.
  • Use contemporary teaching methodology (team-oriented cooperative learning and differentiated learning, experiential approaches and the use of suitable IT tools).
  • Communicate with parents providing feedback on student progress promptly.
  • Participate in student recruiting or other activities that require the teachers’ presence.
  • Attend community activities addressing student families.

Necessary qualifications:

  • University or TEI degree in Early Childhood Education.
  • A minimum of 3 year teaching experience in Preschool Education.
  • Fluency in oral and written English documented either by a US/British University degree or the appropriate certificate.
  • Excellent skills in the use of IT technology and its applications in education.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.

Additional qualifications:

  • Postgraduate studies in a subject related to Early Childhood Education.

Faculty Positions at Perrotis College Graduate Programs (full time)

The School of Graduate Studies of Perrotis College offers the following full-time positions for the academic year 2017-2018:

A.    Faculty Position in Bioinformatics and Head of Bioinformatics Facilities

The selected person will be responsible for teaching genomics/bioinformatics courses and operating the Bioinformatics facilities. Responsibilities for this position include:

  • teaching in all levels of post-graduate genomics/bioinformatics courses;
  • supervising theses at undergraduate and post-graduate level;
  • conducting research in this particular and other related fields;  
  • keeping well up-to-date with developments in bioinformatics;
  • teaching in related short-courses;
  • assisting in the development of infrastructure; setting up of appropriate equipment and software;
  • developing and submitting grant proposals and supporting national and/or international collaboration with academic/research Institutes as well as the industry;
  • advising students; and
  • participating in the life of the School and collaborating with faculty members.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Ph.D. in genomics/bioinformatic science or closely related field with research emphasis in genomics applications;
  • A demonstrated record of peer-reviewed publications of original research;
  • Teaching experience at University level, preferably in English; and
  • Proficiency level of spoken and written English.

Desirable Personal Characteristics and Experience

  • Experience in working in a high quality academic research environment - Experience at post-doctoral (or equivalent) level;
  • Experience in supervising successfully the projects of taught and research students;

  • Ph.D. in agricultural science or closely related field with research emphasis in the different related fields of genomics;
  • More than two years’ experience working in a plant genomics laboratory;
  • A demonstrated record of peer-reviewed publications of original research;
  • Teaching experience at University level, preferably in English; and
  • Proficiency level of spoken and written English.

Desirable Personal Characteristics and Experience

Full-time position of Residential Life Staff
Vacancy for full-time position of Residential Life Staff at the School's Student Life Department (4 month contract)
 
Position Description: The Residential Life Staff are responsible for student safety, health and well-being, as well as creating a positive learning environment for our students.  
 
Responsibilities:
  • Ensure the safety and security of students and the residence halls
  • Keep regular attendance and check-ins with students through duty shift
  • Encourage a positive environment to support students academically
  • Assist students with their development, i.e. health/wellness, time management, study skills, personal development, etc.
  • Create a culture of community and respect in the residence halls
  • Frequently monitor areas of the residence hall
  • Document any student behavior issues to Senior Residential Life Staff
  • Conduct regular checks of the following areas: dining hall during meal times, library, athletic fields, surrounding areas of residence halls, etc.
  • Immediately report any damage, maintenance issues, etc. 
  • Assist with transportation of students to off-campus events/activities
  • Conduct weekly checks of student rooms for cleanliness, damage, etc. and report to Senior Residential Life Staff
  • Be available to assist (when necessary) off-duty in case of emergency or in the case of extra staff being needed for an event/activity
  • Monitor student study hall (student rooms, classroom building, library, etc.)
  • Transport students to the health clinic or hospital for medical needs
  • Tend to the needs of sick children according to the doctor’s instructions and provide first aid, when necessary
  • When appropriate call parents to inform them of a student issue or special permission
  • Be available for staff meetings and training (after hours).
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma. Applicants with medical training, i.e. nursing degree will be preferred.
  • Basic computer skills (i.e.  e-mail, Google Drive, etc.)
  • English language proficiency
  • Driver’s license
  • CPR certification

The Strategic Project Management Office (SPMO) of the American Farm School (AFS) operates in close collaboration with Perrotis College and the other AFS departments, with a view to designing and implementing consultancy projects funded by both public and private sources, as well as providing services relevant to the AFS fields of expertise to the industry and public organizations.

The SPMO offers the following teaching/training – consultancy - research positions for staffing three major up-coming projects:

A. Four full-time Teaching/Training - Consultancy - Research Positions

The selected persons will be offered a one-year teaching/training, consultancy and research employment contract. They will have a leading role in teaching/training, consultancy and research teams in their respective fields of expertise. Their duties will include the design, organization and monitoring of educational, consultancy and research projects as well as the active participation in teaching/training, consultancy and research.

Perrotis College is introducing a School of Graduate Studies, which will award MSc Degrees in 5 different areas of concentration related to Agricultural Science and Marketing of Agricultural Products. The Graduate School builds on the AFS philosophy and long history of quality education focusing on applied research, practical training, and entrepreneurship, guided by the principles of social responsibility, as well as its century old experience as facilitator of many agricultural innovations for Greece and the area.
