Job vacancy for Elementary School Principal at the American Farm School

The Thessaloniki School for Experiential Learning operates on the premises of the American Farm School and offers anextended, innovative educational program to young children 6 to 12 years of age. Main axes of the curriculum include experiential, environmental and innovative programs, enriched Science learning programs, English language acquisition and technological literacy.

Reporting and assignment mission:
The Elementary School Principal reports to the President of the American Farm School and is responsible for the development, management and evaluation of the Elementary education program and curriculum.

Job description:
The Elementary Principal oversees and is personally responsible for the successful operation of the School and more specifically for:

  • academic excellence and financial sustainability
  • curriculum development and implementation, with emphasis on the experiential teaching of STEM;
  • extra-curricular programs;
  • teacher recruitment, coordination, evaluation and professional development;
  • participation in the development and implementation of academic strategic planning;
  • development of innovative academic initiatives and projects;
  • representation of the School in national and international academic networks, government bodies and the community;
  • communication with parents on academic matters;
  • oversight of student record keeping, as well as official correspondence and communicaton with the Department of Education;
  • teaching the number of classes required by Greek law;
  • the organization in cooperation with the Department of Enrollment and Communication of student recruiting activities; and
  • coordination of school activities and events as well as community activities addressed to student families.

Necessary qualifications:

  • Highly qualified and certified to teach Elementary School in Greece
  • Teaching experience in elementary education
  • Demonstrated commitment to the environment or education in the life sciences  
  • Proficiency in English
  • Excellent IT skills

Additional skills:

Job vacancy for Coordinator of Education Abroad, Development, and Programming at the American Farm School

Reporting and assignment mission:
The Coordinator of Education Abroad, Development, and Programming reports to the Dean of the Student Services Center of the American Farm School and is responsible for the development, planning and management of the Study Abroad Program.

Job description:
The Coordinator of Education Abroad, Development, and Programming is responsible:

Program Development, Outreach & Relationship Management

  • Plan and coordinate with the College Deans the new academic programs
  • Develop relationships with new partner institutions
  • Maintain relationships with US Consulate and local hospitals with English Speaking Staff
  • Increase number of incoming semester study abroad students
  • Attend as instructed conferences / study abroad fairs in the USA for recruitment and contact networking

Administration & Financial Planning

  • Coordinate with Registrar & Perrotis Administration for all academic planning

○      Class schedules, credit issuing and transferring, etc. 

  • Maintain all financial records and budgeting planning

○      Expense reports for trips, activities, etc.

○      Issue invoices to universities for group payments

○      Payments for outside suppliers

○      Internal payments for lecturers, activity leaders, etc.

●      Meet with Accounting on all financial issues, planning, etc. 

Study Abroad & Faculty Led Group Support

  • Supervise Pre-Departure and Orientation Program/Information for all students and groups
  • Manage all aspects of on-campus study abroad internships

○      Student-Faculty/Department Matching, Communication & Follow-up

  • Organize, plan and implement all faculty led group itineraries

○      Activities, budget, travel logistics, etc. 

  • Transport and/or escort students or groups as needed

Professional Development

  • Actively seek and engage in opportunities for professional development (i.e. webinars, workshops, etc.)

Position Requirements:

  • Masters Degree (Preferred from a US institution) 
  • Experience working with American students
  • Experience with budgets and planning
  • Experience working in Education (Higher Education Preferred)
  • Proficiency in both English and Greek
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Willingness to travel within Greece with groups & outside of Greece to attend conferences

Job description:

Each teacher is charged with the following responsibilities:

  • Implements the extended curriculum and experiential environmental and innovative programs of the School.
  • Cooperates systematically with all teaching staff of the School.
  • Develops additional educational material for his/her class and the experiential programs he/she implements.
  • Teaches using modern teaching methods (team-oriented cooperative learning and differentiated learning, experiential approaches and the use of suitable IT tools).
  • Communicates with parents providing timely feedback.
  • Participates in student recruiting and other activities that require teachers’ presence.
  • Attends community activities addressed to student families.

Elementary School Teachers report to the Elementary School Principal. English teachers report to the Director of English Language Planning.

Necessary qualifications:

  • University Degree of the respective specialization.
  • Postgraduate studies in a relevant subject.
  • A minimum of 5-year teaching experience in elementary education. In the case of the English teachers, applicants are required to have a native-like fluency. In the case of Elementary school teachers experience in teaching 5th and 6th grade will be appreciated.
  • Excellent skills in the use of IT technology and its applications in education.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.

Vacancy for Administrative assistant at the Elementary School

Job mission:
To provide high quality overall administrative services to the Elementary School ensuring its successful operation.

Job description:
The Administrative assistant, working closely with the School’s Registrar / Administration Officer, is charged with the following responsibilities:

  • Handles incoming calls and deals with communications with parents and teachers;
  • Prepares documents, letters and e-mails;
  • Coordinates the use of classrooms and educational equipment;
  • Assists in the keeping of student records and the School’s archives;
  • Supports School events and activities and
  • Supports teaching staff, whenever necessary.

Required qualifications:

  • High school diploma
  • Good office management skills
  • Fluency in Greek and English (Proficiency certificate)
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Strong writing and communication skills

Work experience in a similar position in an academic environment as well as relevant professional certification in office management and certified IT Skills will be appreciated.
