Senior Major Gifts Officer

The American Farm School and Perrotis College, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit, seeks a Senior Major Gifts Officer, a development professional with a solid perspective on major gift fundraising;  comprehensive understanding and experience in donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship processes and strategies;  and a proven track record raising five, six, and seven-figure gifts.

The Major Gifts Officer will secure major and leadership gifts for the School and will manage an individual portfolio of major donors and major gift prospects.  The position requires well-honed strategic thinking and donor management skills to develop and implement specific donor-by-donor plans to move prospective donors from prospects to major gifts.  Exceptional verbal and written communications and interpersonal skills are required.  The MGO will grow the donor base, assure current donors remain engaged, and develop a high-trust, long-term relationship with each.  The position reports to the Vice President, Institutional Advancement.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Develops and implements a comprehensive fundraising program to attract major gifts and meet fundraising goals
  • Identifies and qualifies major gift prospects for the School taking into account the School’s mission and strategic initiatives to ensure a good fit, and solicits new prospects and gifts
  • Maintains active engagement and oversight over a portfolio of +/-200 major donors and major gift prospects, cultivating them and developing high-trust, long-term relationships with each
  • Ensures proper and timely acknowledgement and recognition of donors
  • Assists with, recommends, and leads (case-by-case) strategic cultivation events
  • Negotiates and writes (or collaborates as needed) gift / pledge agreements
  • Works with institutional leadership to establish, and meet, goals and targets
  • Works with Trustees to cultivate their giving to the School and to engage them as needed in stewarding current donors and identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding prospective major donors
  • Works collaboratively with others responsible for Foundation and Corporate development to ensure coordinated and cohesive approaches and strategies that yield common success
  • Works with the Vice President, the President, College Deans, and other departments to develop and maintain a current portfolio of funding needs and related proposals and guides departments where appropriate to develop proposals that address major gift prospects’ interests.
  • Builds and maintains effective working relationships at all organizational levels – Trustees, Deans, Directors, colleagues, faculty, administrative staff, and others.
  • Coordinates the marketing efforts of major campaigns as needed and provides inputs and guidance on web and printed donor materials and communications
  • Markets the School’s planned giving program to individuals in the assigned portfolio
  • Monitors donor and prospect activity, maintains donor and prospect data in the School’s relationship management database ensuring their accuracy and integrity; regularly reports and accurately documents development activity (proposals presented, contacts made, prospect phase, etc.), results, and other key performance metrics in a timely manner.
  • Adheres to established protocols such as the School’s gift acceptance policy
  • Performs related duties as assigned (and as they may change from time-to-time)

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree minimum, Master degree in a related discipline preferred
  • Eight (8) to ten (10) years of experience in increasingly responsible positions in fundraising
  • Experience and demonstrated success in raising five, six and seven-figure gifts

The preferred candidate would have:

  • Work experience in a not-for-profit organization (preferably an educational institution, high school and/or college).
  • Experience engaging with high-net-worth prospects and donors at various levels of sophistication and with varying interests as those might pertain to one or more facets of the School’s work (refugees, the environment and sustainability, rural development, college education, scientific research, primary education, education for students with disabilities, etc)
  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, analytical and organizational skills. Ability to communicate effectively and meaningfully with individuals in diverse settings.
  • Ability to align donor interests with School programs and initiatives and effectively articulate the case for support for the various facets of the School’s work so that prospects choose to invest in the School    
  • A proven track record of success in the identification, qualification, cultivation, stewardship, and closing of gifts from individual major donors
  • Sensitivity coupled with boldness to ask for the right gift, at the right time, in the right way
  • Basic knowledge of Planned Giving vehicles
  • Ability to translate scientific research into terms that a layman will grasp and translate donor interests into guidance for scientific research
  • Ability to plan and prioritize work, take initiative and work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work remotely without the physical proximity of a team
  • Strong attention to detail
  • High energy, enthusiasm, drive, motivation, and a strong work ethic
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, sound judgment, ability to act decisively
  • Proficiency in MS office (Word, Excel and Powerpoint) and preferably in Salesforce, or demonstrated capacity to learn and use new data management systems.

Hiring Statement:

Position is available immediately and will remain open until filled.  

Full-time position.  Some evening and weekend hours will be required, as well as significant travel.

Flexible location.  While the School maintains a registered office in New York, the position may be located anywhere (though a larger city with access to a major airport is preferable) as the MGO will be primarily working from his/her home office

Perrotis College has introduced a School of Graduate Studies in fall of 2017, which awards M.Sc. Degrees in 2 different areas of concentration related to Agricultural Science and Marketing of Agricultural Products. The Graduate School builds on the AFS philosophy and long history of quality education focusing on applied research, practical training, and entrepreneurship, guided by the principles of social responsibility, as well as its century old experience as facilitator of many agricultural innovations for Greece and the area.

The School of Graduate Studies has welcomed its first class of students in the fall of 2017, complementing the College’s existing B.Sc. Programs, by providing the next tier of educational opportunities to students of the College as well as outside applicants.

Instruction at Perrotis College is conducted in the English language equipping our graduates to face the dynamics of the worlds of science, academia, and business internationally preparing them as well, for continuation at the Doctoral level abroad.

Faculty Openings at Perrotis College – B.Sc. Programs

Perrotis College offers B.Sc. degrees in the fields of Agro-Environmental Systems Management, Business Studies and Food Science and Technology. The approach of the college is strongly interdisciplinary, while its pedagogical methodology is both research oriented and practical, giving students the opportunity to engage in learning-by-doing projects.

The Agro-Environmental Systems Management major focuses on precision agriculture, aiming to optimize the output- environmental impact ratio.  The Food Science and Technology student develops a strong foundation on food product development and related issues. The International Business major with minors in agro-marketing and agro-tourism prepares young men and women for a professional career in these two fields. The three academic divisions together encompass the full fork-to-farm educational experience.

The selected persons will serve as part time lecturers in order to fulfill teaching requirements for the academic year 2018-2019. The curriculum focuses on experiential environmental learning, enriched Science, English language acquisition and technology literacy.

An opening for a Pre-K Teacher is announced for the school year 2018-2019.

Job description:

The teacher is responsible to:

  • Implement the Pre-K curriculum and experiential environmental and innovative programs of the School.
